Mickleham new hotspot for upgrade buyers as Villawood’s Waratah community sets new record

A record-breaking sale at Villawood Properties’ Waratah estate has revealed an interesting trend that suggests the boutique community has become a destination of choice for ‘upgrade buyers’ in Melbourne’s northwest.

In the course of a year, the number of ‘upgrade buyers’ choosing to make Waratah their home has increased by 18.4%, with many being drawn to the boutique community’s larger lot mix and surrounding Mt Ridley Woodlands Conservation Reserve. With the number of second and third homebuyers at Waratah (46.9%) sitting slightly higher than the average of Mickleham (41%) and that of neighbouring Northern LGAs (Hume, Whittlesea and Michell, 37.6%), the community’s appeal with those seeking to elevate their environment is evident.

Colin and Carmen Stedwell recently purchased a record-breaking 1,120m2 park-facing block of land in the Waratah community. Colin explained Waratah’s appeal was its unique balance of giving the sense of being a haven away from the stresses of city life, while also being moments away from the future Mickleham city centre. “We were attracted to the Waratah community because of the abundance of open spaces and the access to the Hume Freeway and the future Outer Metropolitan Ring Road. We were looking to build a beautiful home to enjoy our retirement and this particular lot provides the space we require to build a house we love on,” Colin said.

It is anticipated that the abundance of green open space, including the Mt Ridley Woodlands Conservation Reserve, magnificent mature river red gums and beautifully landscaped wetlands, will set Waratah up as Mickleham’s most desirable community.
